What is it about football, and particularly the NFL that attracts so many fans, especially men? Is it just a “guy thing” or is there another real reason? Well one reason is probably because it’s such a rough sport. The NFL players tackle each other, which for some reason, excites men. Men like roughness. Most would never actually play a rough sport like football, but they can’t get enough of watching others do this.
Perhaps it’s an outlet for men, in several ways. First of all, they like gathering up all their snacks while they sit there and get lost in a good NFL game. It somehow helps them to relieve stress and relax. They don’t worry about anything while they’re watching their pro football games, except if their favorite team is going to win or not. Women have their favorite types of shows that help them to unwind and get things off their minds, and NFL is what guys choose.
Another way that it’s an outlet for men is because it helps them to release any pent up aggression or angry feeling that they may have bottled up inside. It can be thought of as a type of therapy for men, in a way. They watch their favorite players and teams play roughly on television or in person, and they somehow imagine themselves out there, rough-housing.
As long as men don’t take out their pent-up aggressions by getting physical with others, football is an excellent way for them to release it. It’s positive, fun, and all they have to do is sit there, eat their favorite junk food, and their problems literally slip away. Well at least temporarily, anyway, until the game is over, and then they have to find other constructive ways of dealing with their aggression or build-up anger.
Some men have no idea why they love pro football so much. It may sound silly, but many were brought up in homes where football was a popular and frequently-watched sport. There was no way for the man to escape football, so he became a fan by growing up watching it. He probably likes the same teams and players that his dad does, too. That’s how it usually happens.
