January 14, 2021 By Your Base URL Leave a Comment

Tooth pain is a constant interruption of your daily life, and it is one of those things that you want to resolve as quickly as possible. Different kinds of pain usually stem from different causes, and attention from professionals who specialize in family dentistry is the best way to get things resolved quickly and effectively. There are some things you can try, however, when that is not an option.

Sensitive Teeth

Sensitivity to either heat or cold can mean minor decay, trapped bacteria, a loose filling, or nerve exposure. The severity of the problem can vary greatly, but typically sensitivity that doesn’t last very long means the problem is smaller. Keep the area clean and use a toothpaste or gel designed to combat sensitivity. Fissure Sealant treatment could also be beneficial.

Toothache

Dull toothaches may be worsened by eating sweets, clenching your teeth, or extreme temperatures, and if they persist, they should be evaluated by a professional.

Sharp Pain or Shock

Exposed dentin is usually the cause of sharp tooth pain. Receding gums, cavities, or chipped teeth can cause this, and over-bleaching can also be a cause.

Throbbing or Pulsating Pain

Excessive blood flow to a tooth can cause a throbbing sensation, and the area around the tooth may become inflamed. Activities like running, grinding your teeth, and bending over may worsen the problem.

Simple Things to Try

If your teeth are in pain and it is unbearable, getting attention from professionals in family dentistry should be your first course of action. If it is not a dental emergency, however, there are a few simple things you can try. First, thoroughly clean your teeth. Brush and floss to remove anything that may be trapped between your teeth. Rinse your mouth with warm water, and avoid things that worsen the pain. Over-the-counter medications and topical gels can also help to alleviate temporary pain.
